PVA and supports
PVA filaments
These are soluble filaments for support structures. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a water-soluble filament that can be used as a support material for the dual extruder 3D printer.
Support filament: soluble materials
There are two types of soluble filaments: PVA and HIPS. This category is dedicated to PVA. PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) filament is a water-soluble filament that can be used to print substrates for suspended parts. It is used in conjunction with PLA and dissolves in hot water within hours.
Why buy a water-soluble filament
The use of soluble filaments is a great way to print substrates without leaving residues on the printed piece, and therefore having to carry out post-production. The soluble filaments therefore allow to make complex parts.
Prerequisites for water-soluble filaments
In order to use soluble filaments, such as PVA wire, you need an FDM 3D printer equipped with at least two extruders. In fact, these prints with support material require the use of 2 different filaments: PVA to create the supports, and the material that will actually make up the object.
