PC - Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate filament for 3D printing
Polycarbonate (PC) is one of the strongest, longest lasting and most durable materials used in 3D printing.
Find in this section all the polycarbonate coils: PC filament.
It is a thermoplastic polymer with a translucent or transparent appearance, with a certain flexibility and good thermal and impact resistance and with a low dimensional shrinkage.
Among the commercial applications we find it in bulletproof glass, diving masks and screens. The PC for 3D printers is hygroscopic and must therefore be stored in a cool and dry place so as not to compromise its quality.
Polycarbonate also stands out for being hardly flammable, its main characteristic is that it has a very high glass transition temperature (140°C).
Purchase of polycarbonate or PC filaments
The PC filament spools are available in diameters 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm depending on the extruder used in your 3D printer. Find the printing tips in the product sheets, which we recommend reading before purchasing.
Correct printing of the polycarbonate filament
Polycarbonate (PC) is a material that requires a deeper knowledge of 3D printing. It prints at a high extrusion temperature (240-280°C) and a heated bed must be used (100-110°C on average). The direct consequence of these temperatures is the difficulty of printing. In fact, the PC filament is strongly subject to deformation. To better control the printing of the PC filament, we recommend the use of a hot chamber, which will avoid temperature variations and drafts. The addition of an adhesive printing surface can be a good help in maintaining stable adhesion to the object surface during printing.
Polycarbonate (PC) filament, for which applications?
Due to its high strength, durability, and excellent impact and heat resistance, polycarbonate filament is a material that, when mastered, is capable of responding to demanding and highly constrained applications. The polycarbonate or PC filament is therefore ideal for printing molds, parts intended for the mechanical sector or simply parts resistant to wear and temperature.
