The new ecosystem of e3D, the Revo family ecosystem, leads, as we have already seen, to a change in the way we think about the extruder of an FDM 3D printer.
Among the cold end we find the Revo Micro.
Key Features
- Takes up less space inside your 3D printer than a conventional HotEnd
- Thread-mounted for less wobble
- Small, lightweight design allows for better speed performance
- Aluminum body with black anodized finish
- Small and ultra quiet 5V fan and reduction board included
Why such a small heatsink?
Let's start with the Revo nozzles: the key component of these new nozzles is a stainless steel tube. To produce it, medical grade stainless steel (the kind found in an injection needle) is cold drawn to a thin wall. This drawing process strengthens the metal and gives it a very low thermal conductivity - similar to that of titanium.
This allows the use of a smaller-than-normal heat sink. The result is Revo Micro, the smallest HotEnd that e3D has produced to date.
Revo Micro can be used in Direct or Bowden mode.
You can take advantage of the Revo Micro's reduced mass with a Bowden configuration to increase speed performance. Also in this mode, given its small size, you can increase the build volume a bit.
If you prefer direct drive configurations, Revo Micro is very easy to use in this mode as well.
Mounting with M12 x 1.5 threads
Revo Micro is designed with an M12 x 1.5 thread at the top. E3D chose a non-standard, fine pitch thread for two good reasons:
- A finer thread pitch provides more grip, and therefore a tighter, more secure connection
- A finer thread pitch means more ridges in the same space, so the profile angle is smaller, which reduces the chance of loosening during operation
The Revo Micro will be shipped with an M12 x 1.5 nylon nut to be used to securely stop the cold end, to prevent unwanted movement during printing.
