Prusa Research is a company born as a Startup in 2012 in Prague, from the idea of Josef Prusa. Born as a hobby for 3D printing, it has now become the first fastest growing technology company in Central Europe (Deloitte 2018).
The start was very modest, but over time the Prusa i3 design has become one of the most popular FDM 3D printing projects adopted by many manufacturers thanks to its open-source technology.
The company now has more than 600 employees with monthly sales of over 9,000 printers.
Despite its growth, Prusa Research remains true to its roots. Its Original Prusa i3 3D printers are still open-source and many of their parts are printed by other 3D printers within "The Farm," a large room that contains nearly 600 printers that continuously produce parts for other 3D printers.
Their principle of creating open-source technology is linked to the desire to make knowledge freely available among members of the community of 3D printing producers and hobbyists.
