Smart BTT's FilamentDetection Module V2.0 is a universal filament sensor for FDM 3D printers.
The SFS V2.0 is an intelligent filament sensor that improves 3D printing reliability with a highly accurate photoelectric sensor that can detect problems such as filament depletion, knotting, and clogging.
Key Features
- The SFS V2.0 is bidirectional, with no restrictions on filament direction, giving users more flexibility during installation.
- It detects extrusion errors caused by filament depletion, nozzle obstruction, filament knotting and extruder problems. Features two signal outputs and indicator lights to distinguish between obstruction and filament exhaustion.
- Compatible with Marlin, Klipper and RRF firmware.
- Compact, lightweight and easy to install.
- Works with Bowden and direct-drive extruders.
- Supports motherboards with available endstop ports or dedicated filament depletion ports.
Instructions
- Filament can be threaded from either side of the SFS V2.0, as direction does not affect functionality.
- The red light will illuminate when there is no filament in the module.
- The blue light will flash when extrusion is normal.
- The blue light will remain on or off when there is no extrusion.
Calibration
The theoretical detection length of 2.88 mm represents the amount of filament that will be extruded between each signal pulse. This means that if no filament movement is detected after a 2.88 mm move command, a filament error will be triggered.
Setting the detection distance to exactly 2.88 mm could cause false alarms or errors. This parameter can be regarded as the sensitivity of the sensor: the higher the number, the less sensitive the sensor will be.
The sensing length should be adjusted according to the mounting position of your SFS V2.0. The further away from the extruder, the higher the number should be. We recommend starting with a sensing length of 3 mm. If you continue to receive false alarms, increase the sensing length by increments of 1 mm until the problem is resolved.
Notes
Power supply: 3.3V or 5V. Any higher voltage may cause damage.
Housing: The housing may be damaged if the quick connectors are tightened frequently or incorrectly.
Motherboard connection: If your motherboard does not have a dedicated filament depletion port, please consult our technical support.
