I need to ask for clarification about PEI-surfaced plates for which there is either a version with double textured face or one smooth face and the other textured face. What elements should I take into consideration when choosing between the two versions? When using with technical materials such as ABS, etc., is it still necessary to apply lacquer such as Dimafix?
Regarding your inquiry about PEI coated plates: first of all, the smooth or textured texture is more for the aesthetic effect on the first printing layer. In any case, for technical materials or materials that are difficult to keep attached to the platen, such as ABS, it is easier to print on a textured surface because the knurled texture increases the contact surface between the platen and the deposited plastic, thus increasing its adhesion. With the heated platen we provide, it will be able to easily exceed 100°C in a few minutes so no adhesive applied on top of PEI will be needed. Indicatively from our tests ASA and ABS are able to print without additives with the platen at 110/115°C with passive closed chamber.
