The thermal fuse protects the equipment against fire or thermal damage due to overloading.
The use of an active thermal fuse can be used to provide additional safety to 3D printers with heated platen.
In fact, it can be installed as a safety against malfunctions of the heat-producing elements, to prevent the temperature from rising to dangerous levels and triggering a fire.
It is a ceramic fuse that trips at a temperature of 150°C.
It is an IEC rated thermal fuse for use up to 15A. Suitable for use with standard single-phase power supplies up to 250V AC.
Example of a safety system: it may happen in an FDM 3D printer with a heated platen that the platen thermistor is defective. In this case, the faulty thermistor may read the platen temeprature incorrectly, which then continues to heat up, exceeding the actual required temeprature. This heating beyond the limit can result in a high risk of burn, or fire if a trigger is present. In such a case, the 150°C thermal fuse trips if the printing table reaches this critical threshold. It interrupts and then stops the heating of the platen.
