Limonene (orange terpene) is a totally natural solvent of plant origin (citrus extract) with excellent solvent power toward fats, oils, waxes, alkyd and natural resins, rosin, oil and oil-synthetic paints, bituminous paints, etc. It completely dissolves rosin and dammar.
It has a particularly pleasant odor and is biodegradable.
It is extracted from citrus peel by distillation and separation, obtaining D-LIMONENE used in the technical sector.
Uses of limonene:
because of its characteristics, it is particularly suitable in the production of fine art oil and oil-synthetic paints.
Its main characteristic is that it provides a tail solvent power that is evident in a remarkable spreading of the applied film together with high gloss characteristics.
Compared with essence of turpentine, it has a less pungent odor and bears no harmful symbols.
In the preparation of solvent-based polishing and protective waxes it is used as a substitute for mineral and/or vegetable turpentine (essence of turpentine) compared with which it has superior solvent power and a pleasant odor.
Proposed for the preparation of high-quality solvent-based impregnants as an alternative to water-based impregnants, which have lower quality standards.
