What is the purpose of a silicone heated pad?
The Arlon heated pad of the specified size is ideal for use in your 3D printers. This model in particular is suitable for printers VORON. In fact, there are slots in the sides to allow for a snug fit installation of the platen screws. It is suitable for both Voron 2.4 printers and the Voron Trident . The special shape of this platen ensures maximum coverage of the area of the aluminum platen used as a base.
What are the advantages of this platen?
Being a silicone pad it has several advantages including thickness, light weight and flexibility.
It is used in 3D printers in pairs with an aluminum plate. The aluminum plate can be ground for best performance: find out in the section on cutting to size or if you are building a Voron we already have those milled to size with holes and slots ready to use.
The silicone pad connected by adhesive to the aluminum plate allows its uniform heating to maintain an adhesion of the first layer of printing and avoiding deformation to the object you are going to create.
What is ARLON silicone?
Rogers Arlon® Silicone Technologies is the industry leader in silicone elastomers.
Arlon silicone pads are simple, highly functional composites that can be used for a wide range of industrial purposes.
They are characterized by:
High performance and reliability
Wide range of dimensions
ISO 9001:2015 certification
How is Arlon silcone pad formed?
Substrate: glass fiber Style 162
Layer 1: cured silicone rubber
Layer 2: uncured silicone rubber
Interleave: polyethylene 0.0025"
How is the silicone top attached to the printer?
The silicone platen can be attached to the base of your 3D printer with 3M 468MP adhesive (included).
This tape is already attached on one side to the silicone pian. It is a 130 µm transfer tape with acrylic adhesive on a polythene kraft paper backing. It has excellent cut, temperature and chemical resistance.
It has outstanding adhesion to metal and plastics with high surface energy, and is easy to apply.
3M™ Transfer Adhesive Tape 468MP is a high-performance acrylic adhesive (200MP) with a polycoated kraft paper backing (0.10 mm - 26 kg).
IMPORTANT NOTES.
Before touching the pad or aluminum top, turn off the power and wait at least 10 minutes for it to cool to avoid burns. Do not leave it unattended to prevent damage to children or inexperienced people. Do not leave the 3D printer with the pad on in closed, small, or unventilated places.
Caution. This is an electrical type device. All necessary measures should be taken in order to ensure the safety of those who use it and those who may come into contact with it. Depending on skill level, it may be helpful to practice crimping before wiring the pad. Wrong crimps are a major source of problems and are difficult to identify.
AC wiring must be sized correctly. Use at least 18 AWG (0.75 mm²) or a 16 AWG (1.25 mm²). Also be sure to ground the bed.
Using quality components helps prevent malfunctions and possible damage. Safety, however, is a very important factor, so it is useful to add a 115-125°C thermal fuse as an additional precautionary measure.
We recommend not using the pad at temperatures above 110°C, as this reduces the life of the adhesive that connects it to the aluminum plate. High temperatures also result in a reduction in the magnetic attraction of any magnetic plate used for printing over time.
