Upgrade kit with optimized design to fit Mosquito hotends.
This is a Bondtech upgrade for Prusa I3 MK3S and MK2.5S that will allow the use of the popular Mosquito hotends.
This kit contains only the parts needed to convert your current extruder to the popular BMG (Bondtech Mini Geared) extruder based design with 3:1 gear ratio for better accuracy and resolution along with optimized heat sink cooling geometry and SLS printer housing.
Working Temperature Limits
Please note that if you use this upgrade kit inside a closed chamber, it will have the following set of working temperature limits:
Due to the plastic parts of the HT PLA sensor> up to 60°C (90-100°C when parts are annealed);
Due to the stepper motor> up to 80°C
Main Product Features
This extruder upgrade has the following main features:
Adapted to fit Prusa's new filament sensor and Mosquito hotends - Includes a Bondtech BMG extruder with 3:1 gear ratio - Optimized geometry for heat sink cooling - Less moving weight to reduce vibration and ghosting - Professional 3D printed housing with the?Use of an SLS printer and 3 other key parts.
Mosquito MK3S / MK3S, what's the difference?
This upgrade kit is mostly similar to the previous MK3S, with the main difference being that it was designed to fit the Mosquito and Mosquito Magnum hotends.
Other differences come from design changes that include:
An optimized cooling air channel to focus airflow on the Mosquito's heatsink. The channel is narrower.
This narrower space is also used to hold the hotend in place during nozzle changes, so the user can change the nozzle with one hand.
The fan cover has also been redesigned to fit the Mosquito hotends.
We are including in this kit a new part, the Mosquito hotend adapter, 3D printed with the use of an SLS printer.
Prusa's Heater or Mosquito Heater, what should I use?
The upgrade is compatible with the 40W thermistor and heater already included with Prusa (MK3s).
A 30W heater (most mk2.5s users) will probably not be enough to keep the Mosquito Hotend at a stable temperature.
However, you also have the option of using the Mosquito Slice Engineering thermistor and the 50W heater.
We recommend the more efficient 50W heater for your Mosquito to reach a stable operating temperature faster.
If you have a Prusa i3 MK2.5S, please purchase the 12V cartridge.
If you have a Prusa i3 MK3S, you should purchase the 24v Mosquito cartridge.
We strongly recommend using a thermal compound paste to provide good thermal conductivity between the heater and the hotend.
Slice Engineering recommends using boron nitride paste.
Firmware upgrade
To use this upgrade in the MK2.5S / MK3S, you need to update steps E and Z_Max.
Check for the latest version of our firmware.
MMU2s
In order to use MMU2s together with Bondtech you need additional accessory. This will allow the sensor to activate when the filament reaches the drive gears.
Community involvement
This is a co-development effort with the Prusa team. A lot of work went into this project to find a solution that would be the best fit for Prusa I3 MK3S.
