Voron 2.4 STEP 7: StealthBurner & Hot end Revo Voron
This seventh step for building your Voron 2.4 r2 consists of the components for mounting the extruder andhot end. The Voron 2.4 DHM kit has as its extruder assembly the ability to mount theAfterburner, or the new StealthBurner with the original Bondtech gears . This kit includes the components for the StealthBurner model.
The StealthBurner head consists of 3 main parts:
- The Clockwork, a direct-drive extruder with dual drive gears,
- The hot end assembly , which can be customized according to the type of hot-end used,
- The cooling assembly which includes by default a cover with 2 fans one axial and one radial.
The 3 blocks are then hooked to the linear guide carriage along the X axis.
This is a very compact and solid direct drive type extruder assembly that can travel at a sustained working speed due to its design.
Different types of hot-end can be mounted using mods available online, but the default variant, which we propose in this kit, is the one with thehot end Revo Voron (e3D).
What are the features of this STEP 7?
- StealthBurner (Direct drive): We prefer the Direct Drive system (as opposed to bowden) because it allows a wider range of materials (including flexibles) to be printed. The StealthBurner printhead, despite being a direct drive system, allows for great speeds and acceleration while working. This is mainly due to the extreme compactness of the block.
- BMG extruder (drive system) - Bondtech mini geared: Original Bondtech® parts set with CNC-machined nickel-coated hardened steel drive gears. Super sharp teeth for maximum grip on filament. The Bondtech BMG®'s precision-engineered gears and 3:1 internal gear ratio allow for great torque and compact power for all your applications. Whether you need high-resolution prints with small nozzles or high-flow prints with large nozzles, the optimized gear ratio combined with the drive gears ensures precision and provides unmatched thrust power and lightning-fast retractions. In addition, Dual-Drive technology from Bondtech ensures an uninterrupted flow of material even under the most difficult conditions. This allows many different material textures to be used: from "slippery" nylon to soft TPU to high-strength filaments such as carbon fillers.
- Hot end (Fuser): Revo Voron from e3D accompanied by Revo HeaterCore 24V and Brass Revo 0.4mm Nozzle. Additional replacement nozzles can be included in the kit. The RapidChange feature allows you to change cold nozzles quickly by hand without the use of tools or hot screwing. Currently the nozzle is only available in a brass version, but Revo ObXidian will be coming out soon! Next-generation e3D nozzle built with copper alloy body with steel tip and new E3DLC coating.
Note for assembly
- As explained above, the StealthBurner consists of 3 basic parts (driver, fuser, and fans) that are modular to each other and interchangeable, so you can customize your extruder to suit your printing needs. However, attention must be paid to the different assembly steps. There is a precise order for assembling and disassembling the whole block, so please follow the attached manual carefully.
- In particular, attention must be paid to the orientation of the fan, motor, and hot-end cables as they must adhere to precise positioning in order to pass between the plastic components that support them and then be locked to the side.
- We include brass dowels in the kit to insert into the plastics; be careful to mount them perpendicular to the molded parts and check their effective grip after installation. The StealthBurner is an essential component to the print and at the same time complex, the various parts that make it up (some really very small pieces) must fit and engage with each other perfectly so care and precision during assembly is a must.
- Plastics are not included by default but are optionally selectable. We strongly recommend for this part of the printer where temperatures and mechanical stress are high to opt for Nylon-Carbon which will give you guarantees in terms of wear and tear and durability.
- As for the StealthBurner cables that will remain "flying" at the time of the assembly of this step, you will be able to reorder them in the next step. In fact you will be able to receive and install the 1LC toolboard from Duet3D, which being placed directly on the StealthBurner allows a cleaner and simplified cable management: this provides a bus connection with the motherboard through a single cable.
- Furthermore, it will be possible at a later stage and according to one's needs to integrate various fan mods, which allow for more massive cooling than the standard configuration. This comes in handy especially when high-flow printing needs to be done. These mods will be even easier to install precisely because of the 3-part interchangeable block design.
Voron 2.4: an introduction
The Voron 2.4 is a motion 3D printer design CoreXY with a fixed plane conceived by Voron Design. This printer is known for its reliability and high performance.
Staying true to the fundamentals of the RepRap project, the Voron 2.4 is completely open-source, customizable and self-buildable.
The DHM kits of Voron 2.4 were born out of the need to gather the various requests of our customers: from those who struggle to find the material to those who have pointed out gaps and critical points in the kits already commercially available. The DHM kits are born from our experience in the 3D printing industry and knowledge of quality manufacturers. In addition, thanks to our in-house workshop, we have created custom components by making improvements to the design to give optimal reliability and performance.
The DHM kits from Voron 2.4 are currently available in 3 main variants that differ only in the size of the build space:
Kit Voron 2.4 250 mm → 250x250x250 mm
Kit Voron 2.4 300 mm → 300x300x300 mm
Kit Voron 2.4 350 mm → 350x350x350 mm
There is the possibility of some customization in some step of the kit, such as the choice of the extruder or the choice of the control board.
Do you want to build your own 3D printer Voron 2.4?
Our step-by-step kits for Voron 2.4 include 9 step + an optional tenth. In each step you will find the components for assembly accompanied by a manual with construction instructions and cautions.
We decided to divide the construction of Voron 2.4 into several steps to facilitate the assembly moments and also to allow for deferred purchase over time. We aim for quality and reliability of components rather than offering a cheap or incomplete kit.
Why buy a Voron 2.4 kit?
Owners of the Voron 2.4 praise it for its reliability and speed. By buying a kit printer, one can customize various points: from the appearance, to the choice of size, type of electronics, extruder, and many others.
The Voron 2.4 DHM kit approach is to STEP: a step-by-step approach to building, each in his or her own time, a printer Voron. Each step has everything you need to finish that specific part of assembly, and this allows you to be able to pause the project and resume it without particular difficulty.
We have broken down and customized some of the steps in the official guide Voron into specific manuals for each step downloadable PDF. You will thus find step-by-step support for assembly. The manual for this step is available in the "Attachments" section of this page.
