Voron 2.4 STEP 9: closing panels and accessory components with air filter
This ninth step for building your Voron 2.4 r2 consists of the 3D printer's closing components. It can therefore be considered an step "optional" as the printer is fully functional without these components.
If you want to print technical filaments, and you want to get the most out of a Voron 2.4 then including paneling and other details will certainly make a difference!
The Voron 2.4 r2 kit includes the ability to install enclosing paneling, skirts to cover the electronics at the bottom of the machine, the spool holder for the filament, and the air filter. All the small parts will also be provided in the kit, including connectors and hardware for attaching the various components.
What are the features of this STEP 9?
- Closure panels: specifically for the FDM 3D printer Voron 2.4 r2. These are 3mm thick PMMA panels laser cut according to the official project drawings. Included are the 2 side panels, top closure and front doors in transparent PMMA - the back, bottom and deck panel (divider between print chamber and electronics compartment) in black PMMA. The sides and edges are sanded to avoid injury when handling them. They come with protective film on both sides.
- Air filter: with the closed Voron 2.4 r2 printer, even higher temperature filaments can be printed than with open FDM 3D printers. For example, ABS, ASA, nylon and others can be printed. Some engineering plastics in the melt phase emit small particles, called VOCs (volatile organic compounds), into the air that are harmful if breathed in continuously. Therefore, the installation of an air filter for the air leaving the printer is very important. The air filter package includes the HEPA filter, activated charcoal filter, filter status indicator, air intake fan, and fixing parts. The plastic parts can be selected when setting up the step or can be printed independently if you already have a 3D printer.
- The lower part of the printer contains the electronics. This can be hidden by the "skirt," which are plastic parts that give both protection and an aesthetic effect. The plastic parts are to be considered as add-ons because they can be printed to your liking in case you already own a printer. Included by default in this step is the hardware for attachment.
- Spool holder: the printer Voron 2.4 r2 provides for the possibility of installing a spool holder at the rear of the machine. Included in this step are all the small parts for fastening the plastic parts (to be chosen in the configuration of this step or to be printed independently).
Note for assembly
- When the 3D printer Voron 2.4 is closed thanks to the paneling, a closed chamber is created. A hot chamber is not created because there is no active thermoregulated heating present. It is a chamber in which, if the printing table is also activated, a temperature of about 45°C up to a maximum of 60°C is reached.
- When mounting the panels, we recommend that you do not remove the film completely, but raise only those parts necessary for fixing. It may be necessary to turn the machine upside down, and this may result in scratches to the newly installed panels. Therefore, remove them when assembly is complete and the machine is ready to be turned on.
- Since these are assembly kits, it may happen that at the time of installation of the paneling there may be small discrepancies in the closing of the front doors. This can result from an accumulation of small errors during assembly. It can be solved by removing a few tenths of material along the entire affected side with an abrasive tool.
- Be careful when cleaning the panels. Clean them only with water to avoid ruining the panels (dulling them or facilitating yellowing over time).
- When installing the air filter fan, you can take advantage of the profile hollow from the inside of the frame to run the power cord through, protecting and hiding it at the same time.
- The HEPA filter and activated carbon filter have a certain life span depending on the use of the printer. They should be checked and replaced periodically to ensure proper operation.

Note on security
- Arriving at step 9 you have a printer Voron 2.4 operating at 100%. This FDM 3D printer generates high temperatures and its hot moving parts can cause injury. Never access the inside of the printer during operation. Allow the machine to cool down before accessing the inside.
- We cannot control the assembly condition of Voron 2.4 by the user. For this and other reasons, we assume no responsibility and expressly disclaim liability for loss, injury, damage, or expense arising out of, or in any way connected with, the assembly, handling, storage, use, or disposal of components. The information contained in the manual Voron is provided without any warranty, expressed or implied as to its correctness.
- Extreme care should be taken when interacting with the printer. It has electrical components, moving parts and high temperature areas.
- Users' use of filaments is beyond our control. Poor quality materials, as well as some particular technopolymers, may release VOCs (volatile organic compounds) above the regulated threshold limit values during the printing process. This phenomenon can cause headaches, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, malaise, difficulty concentrating, and a feeling of intoxication. The use of the suction filter is recommended, as well as installation in a dry, well-ventilated room and a minimum distance of 50 cm from other objects.
- The Voron 2.4 printer supplied as a kit is intended for use by persons who have the necessary experience and knowledge, unless they use it under the supervision of a person who is responsible for their safety and gives them instructions on how to use the device. Prevent children from having unsupervised access to the printer, even when the printer is not in use.
Caution is never enough. Implement all necessary safety measures when using the components provided.
Voron 2.4: an introduction
