The Vz-HextrudORT is a lightweight and compact extruder originally designed by MirageC (Hextrudort). It has been adapted and modified to facilitate printability and lower the center of gravity to fit the VzBoT.
There are 3 versions of the extruder.
- One molded with normal BMG-type gears
- One molded with worm gears and the rest of the BMG gears (The molded version also has the option of having the motor in a higher position to fit the EVA 2.3-2.4 printhead)
- A CNC version with CNC gears. These new features are not backward compatible with BMG. It can work with nema14 round motor and 8- or 10-tooth gears.
The product in question is the CNC version. Produced by Vez in collaboration with Mellow3D. This version is smaller in Y-direction than the 3D printed models, allowing for more available space on the back of the VzBoT Vz printhead. More space to mount a motor radiator or printhead CANbus board, etc.
The extruder body is made of 6061 aluminum alloy with high-precision CNC machining, which is not only durable but also ultralight.
The gear material is made of hardened steel, so as to ensure a long service life. This gear has a smaller tolerance and less deformation than the injection gear.
The metal with thermal conductivity will conduct the heat of the motor, but this is also the heat dissipation process of the motor.
This model is liquid cooled due to the presence of two ducts at the back of the extruder. An IN duct and an OUT duct allow rapido control of the extruder temperature.
Strengths:
- High torque and low weight: the extruder can produce more force on the filament than other units. This means you can print faster without losing quality or filament jams
- All-metal construction: high durability
- The reduction ratio of the extruder is 1: 6.25, the power is 25% more than the original 1: 5 reduction ratio motor. Use the 8-tooth motor to set the pulse to 895-905, use 2209 for drive, and the recommended motor current is 0.6 A-1 A
- Smaller and compact design with a weight of 40 grams (excluding the motor)

Mounting
All versions of the Vz-HextrudORT have the same mounting scheme. They can be mounted from the bottom of the extruder using M3 bolts. The distance between mounting holes is 19 mm, exactly the same as LGX Lite.
A piece of PTFE tubing is required between the extruder andhotend. The length varies depending on the extruder and mounting option.
Alignment
It is important that the main shaft/gear is parallel to the idler and main body. There is a small clearance/tolerance in the front cover and back plate assembly that can cause wobble problems if it is not aligned properly. To align it properly, proceed as follows:
- Make sure the tension arm is in tension.
- Loosen the 2 motor bolts.
- Insert the filament into the extruder and make sure the filament is loaded up to the gears.
- Loosen the 2 front cover bolts and the third front bolt on the lower right.
- Tighten all 3 bolts
- Adjust the motor position so as not to put too much pressure on the POM gear and tighten the 2 bolts. (If the motor pinion is too tight on the POM gear it may cause problems).
What is VzBoT?
VzBoT is a high-speed, moderate-sized 3d printer. Based on the TronXY XS5(A) frame CoreXY, but easily adaptable to other 2020 aluminum extrusion frames.
Since then, the VzBoT project has evolved with CNC-milled aluminum structural components and a custom high-performance hotend. The pace of development of the VzBot project has been lightning fast, and it is now one of the fastest FDM 3D printers around.
